Since Brannen Brothers Flutemakers was founded in 1978, they have earned a worldwide reputation for unsurpassed excellence. Throughout the flute community, they have been known as the company that leads the way in innovation and standard setting. Every flute and headjoint bearing the Brannen Brothers name is handmade to exacting standards of craftsmanship, and displays the most advanced mechanical design and acoustic technology available in the world. Bickford and Robert Brannen, founders.
Over the years notable collaborations have been with Albert Cooper, Johann Brögger, Eva Kingma, and Rainer Lafin. These associations have brought many innovations to flutists, flute playing, and flute making. Albert Cooper brought the Cooper Scale, the Brannen-Cooper headjoint design and the Albert Cooper Orchestral Model flute. Johann Brögger designed the Brögger Mekanik and Brögger Acoustic and with Eva Kingma the goal was to develop a C flute that offers a full quarter-tone scale and multi-phonic venting. Rainer Lafin brought a new headjoint design to the Brannen offerings.
